Armstrong, the man who restored the true gospel of the Kingdom of God to this end-time generation after nearly 1,900 years of darkness, passed from this life. His death marked the end of an era of powerful truth proclamation, but it also ushered in a period of testing, scattering, and spiritual wilderness for those who hold fast to the faith once delivered.

The Bible repeatedly uses the number 40 as a symbol of trial, probation, testing, and preparation for a greater purpose. It marks the completion of a generation's journey through difficulty before entering into God's promised blessings or fulfillment. Let us examine the major 40-year periods in Scripture, each representing a time of wandering, refinement, and divine preparation.

Here are the key 40-year periods in the Bible:

The Israelites' Wandering in the Wilderness After the Exodus, due to unbelief and rebellion, the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years (Numbers 14:33-34; Deuteronomy 2:7). An entire generation died off, humbled and tested, before the new generation could enter the Promised Land.

Moses' Life Divided in 40-Year Segments Moses spent 40 years in Egypt as a prince, 40 years in Midian as a shepherd in exile, and then 40 years leading Israel through the wilderness (Acts 7:23, 30, 36). Each period prepared him for greater service to God.

The Reigns of Israel's Greatest Kings Saul, David, and Solomon each ruled for 40 years (Acts 13:21; 2 Samuel 5:4; 1 Kings 11:42). These reigns represented full generations of leadership, testing the nation's faithfulness to God.

The Period of Peace and Testing Under the Judges After entering the land, periods of oppression and deliverance often culminated in 40-year cycles of rest and trial (Judges 3:11; 5:31; 8:28).

Judgment on Egypt In prophecy, God declared Egypt would be desolate and uninhabited for 40 years as a time of divine judgment and humbling (Ezekiel 29:11-13).

These biblical examples show that God often allows His people to endure 40 years of wilderness—times of trial, purification, and separation from worldly influences—before ushering in restoration, promise, or judgment.
